Founder of international humanitarian organisation keynote speaker at Summit on Non-Profit Leadership

 Albert Schweitzer Institute for the Humanities Founder Dr Robles to present address on humanitarian work with world leaders in third world countries —


MS Society Second Summit on Non-Profit Leadership, Melbourne, Thursday 8 July 2004 –
Dr Harold Robles, Founder and President Emeritus of The Albert Schweitzer Institute for the Humanities, a non-profit organisation that seeks to improve medical and educational standards in third world countries, will provide a keynote address at the Second Summit on Non-Profit Leadership. The summit, held from the 7th to 9th July, will examine the strategic challenges, the risks, relationships and partnerships, as well as the sustainability of leadership in the third sector. The third (non-profit) sector is comparable in size to the Australian mining and agriculture industry.
Through his work founding and managing the Albert Schweitzer Institute, Dr Robles has joined with many notable world leaders, including Mother Theresa, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, Bianca Jagger, to improve healthcare and education standards in third work countries. Dr Robles’ address will discuss his inspiration for establishing the institution, his leadership developing it into a multi-million dollar operation and the life-saving assistance it have provided some of the world’s most desperate peoples.


Notably, Dr Robles joined with Albert Schweitzer Institute Goodwill Ambassador Bianca Jagger (daughter of music industry icon, Mick Jagger) to assist in the evacuation of critically ill Bosnian children to the US. Dr Robles also formed an influential partnership with Mikhail Gorbachev to improve the standard of healthcare provided for Russian orphans, many of whom were affected by the Chernobyl disaster.


Most recently, the institute has provided more than two million dollars worth of unused medical equipment to countries in Central America, Eastern Europe and Africa, and will continue to do so annually.


In recognition of his dedication to humanitarianism, Dr Robles has been award many internationally acclaimed humanitarian awards. Most notably, Dr Robles received a congressional award from Bill Clinton at the White House, and (include the Order of St Andrew).
Since retiring from the Albert Schweitzer Institute, Dr Robles’ took up the challenge as the Vice President and General Manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa of Australian network security company Protocom in 2001.
