MKI announces Grand Opening Health Information Centre at the Legacy Centre in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch

Oostvoorne (NL)/Kayamandi (SA), November 26th, 2009 – Medical Knowledge Institute (MKI) announces the Grand Opening of the fourth MKI Health Information Centre at the Legacy Centre in Kayamandi. The Health Information Centre will be officially opened by MKI Chairman and President Dr. Harold Robles and Eliane van Reesema-Cordia, the granddaughter (by marriage) of the Honorary Chairman of MKI Guup Baron Kraijenhoff on Wednesday, December 2nd at 12:00 PM, including traditional African singing and dancing. The Dutch Consul General, David de Waal will also attend the opening. Kayamandi is a township in Stellenbosch and is established during the period of apartheid in South-Africa. The Health Information Centre will primarily focus on educating the local community on HIV/AIDS related issues, public health and other curable diseases which are a significant problem in Kayamandi.

Goals
The Health Information Centres are an initiative of the Medical Knowledge Institute, an international non-profit, to create public awareness of how individuals, families and communities can benefit from the progress in medicine, public health, environmental health, sanitation, and management. Each Centre shares education and knowledge so that individuals and communities may become more self-reliant in tackling their health problems in their own context. The goal of the centres is to reduce the knowledge gap that exists within communities, and strengthen the capacity of community members to document and share information.

“Medical Knowledge Institute stands for life loving, life generating and
life giving! Visit the Health Information Centre, take care of yourself and your family, our health is in our hands”, says Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

“MKI is convinced that accessibility to relevant information is the most effective strategy to improve healthcare. I’m very pleased that after the successful establishment of Healthcare Information Centres in Khayelitsha, Cape Town and Soweto we can open a Health Information Centre for the local community and children of Kayamandi”, says Dr. Harold E Robles, Founder and President, Medical Knowledge Institute.
